On the 16th October at 9.40, Dan Herbert, HR Business Partner of CA Technologies will be speaking at Tucana’s HR Change and Transformation Conference. The interesting thing about the title; “HR Change and Transformation” is that it speaks to both HR’s role in organisational change and transformation, and the change and transformation currently challenging the HR function itself.
HR is beginning to appreciate the value of data and the opportunities it holds. The benefits of a data driven HR function are there for all to see. However, just because you realise the potential of something does not mean it is easy to make the most of it.
How to escape the Excel Nightmare!
People data by its very nature is complex, and messy. It can be difficult to clean and link to core business drivers (see our blog on big data vs people data). That was the situation Dan Herbert and his HR team from CA Technologies, one of the largest software corporations in the world, found themselves in. They were in “Excel Hell” faced with numerous spreadsheets and unintelligible tables of people data. Performing effective workforce analytics was time consuming and impossible aggregate across the unstructured data. At the same time they were using PowerPoint to succession plan. With one employee per slide there was no way of identifying which successors were needed for which roles and presenting that information to senior leads in a clear and concise way.
Taking on the data and analytics challenge
Dan will be speaking on how he and his team embraced the people data challenge and by taking an analytical approach to succession planning converted documentation time to thinking time. By extracting data from their HR MIS system and visualising that data they were able to investigate and uncover trends in critical roles, performance and leadership data. They started to tell stories with that data, communicating to senior leaders the connection between HR data and business drivers.
In this session, Dan will be answering questions including:
– How to embrace the data journey and bring it to life
– How to connect HR and business drivers to affect change
– How to realise value in workforce analytics across your organisation.
Throughout, Dan will be probing what the future holds for a data driven HR function, and how you can connect HR processes to outcomes. This session will challenge assumptions, tackle the fundamentals of data & analytics, and how HR can start to become a serious partner in direction setting for businesses. We can’t wait!
