We are under no illusions, in order to fulfil the vision of developing a proper organisation design, a system or Micro design, it is a big journey. You need the right methods, the right equipment and real commitment. But isn’t that true of anything that has real value. Isn’t that what helps give life meaning. If it was simple, it would already be done? If it was easy, would it be fulfilling?
Many of the people we admire most are those who overcome seemingly impossible hurdles. Those who break new boundaries & are brave are those who are admired most. Those like the great explorers. Even if they failed, like the great Shackleton who got within 190km of the south pole, achieved greatness through his planning, selection of the best possible team, share determination and leadership. It is these pioneers who pave the way for others.
But achieving great things can’t happen in one go. It takes time. It takes smaller, bite-size steps. In an organisational context, it requires value to be achieved with each step. It requires momentum to be built and people to be taken on the journey.
The journey also depends on where you start. If your data is totally broken and you don’t know your As-Is situation, then start there. Pull the data into one place. Clean it and build an understanding of what, at the most simple level, the current organisation looks like.
If you have a good grip on the current situation, but the environment is rapidly changing, then plan for it through scenario modelling. Test options and think through the impact of various scenarios. Get onto the front foot and improve the quality of your decisions.
That is why we have developed a series of bite size packages. Packages that are relatively simply to implement on their own, that provide tangible value but help you on your journey. A package is a set of tools, experiences on what works and what doesn’t, a series of templates and worked examples.
It is our mission to help our clients become fitter. To achieve their goals and beyond. We believe an effectively managed organisation is a critical component to achieving greatness. We don’t believe there are any other system-wide tools to support this journey.
That is why we developed OrgVue. That is why we have and are developing a series of packages to make the journey possible. That is why we are doing research with the University of Westminster into all the issues and practices surrounding Org design, and why we are building a community through initiatives like the inspiration group. We have been there. We know that it is tough. We have no illusions. That is why we know it will be worthwhile.
